PERKINS + WILL's Award-Winning Design Emphasizes Sensory Exploration

The design concept, "Awakening Your Senses," is brought to life through a series of sculptural elements within the showroom. The centerpiece is a sculptural staircase, aptly named the "sense of possibilities," modeled after a carpet loom. This feature serves as a platform for viewing the company's floor products, with its complex and visually stimulating curves mimicking yarn moving through carpet production.

PERKINS + WILL's design goes beyond aesthetics, focusing on creating a customer experience that aligns with Shaw Contract Group's brand. The showroom doubles as a space for product presentations, industry partner meetings, and sales meetings, effectively maximizing the use and flexibility of the space. The design thus serves as a merchandising backdrop for the company's products while also facilitating knowledge sharing and collaboration within the industry.

The realization of this design was a collaborative effort between Shaw Contract Group and the designers at Perkins+Will. From schematic design and design development to the creation of comprehensive construction documents, the project team worked closely to ensure that the showroom met the client's design objectives and project needs.

Spanning 5,458 sq ft, the showroom is open to the Architecture and Design community as a place to explore the latest products and flooring solutions. Shaw Contract Group also regularly hosts events and presentations in the space, further cementing its role as a hub for design community professionals and industry partners.

The showroom's design has been recognized for its excellence, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
