Dongyu Logistics: Redefining the Office Lobby

A Free, Open, and Efficient Space Inspired by the Logistics Industry

Located in Dongyu Logistics Park in Yiwu, Zhejiang, China, Dongyu Logistics is a mixed-use building office lobby space surrounded by picking stations and logistics warehouses. The designer, Simon Cheng, aimed to create a free, open, efficient, and cool office space that reflects the characteristics of the logistics industry.

Cheng extracted the elements of the logistics industry and incorporated them into the design, emphasizing the relationship of linking and conveying. The result is a space that exudes energy and creativity, challenging the traditional notions of a logistics office.

The design of Dongyu Logistics showcases two distinct states of users in the space. One scene depicts a busy environment with a clean background, while the other shows people conversing freely in an open area flooded with natural sunlight. The facade partition projects a strip onto the corridor floor, adding a dynamic element to the space.

The use of alumina plate material in the design creates a lighter visual sense for the columns, giving the space a cool and high-tech feel. The combination of marble, aluminum metal, and other materials adds subtle details and layers to the space, creating a sense of clash and depth. Additionally, the strong color contrast of blue and red is used to differentiate the men's and women's toilets, infusing a sense of art into the otherwise gray space.

Dongyu Logistics covers an area of 475 square meters and was completed in May 2022. The project started in April 2019 and showcases the designer's dedication to empowering the traditional logistics industry through thoughtful design.

This innovative design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. The award celebrates designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.

With Dongyu Logistics, Simon Cheng has successfully redefined the office lobby, creating a space that combines functionality, aesthetics, and the unique characteristics of the logistics industry. This project sets a new trend for the industry, showcasing the power of design to transform traditional spaces into innovative and inspiring environments.
