Fontana Haus: A Harmonious Fusion of Minimalism and Dimensional Impression

Unifying Spaces Through Design

With the mantra of "less is more," Fontana Haus aims to create a functional and visually striking design. The challenge of dealing with an extremely high and low ceiling under the same space was overcome by making the ceiling-height wall the centerpiece. A seamless gypsum board protrusion was built, giving the wall a dimensional impression. To further enhance its grandeur, a splash of vivid color was added, making it a key feature of the space.

The highlight of the design is the water fountain-like TV console that hangs from the high ceiling wall. Mimicking the flow of a fountain, a lamp is suspended, creating a mesmerizing visual effect. This unique feature adds an extra layer of intrigue and artistic flair to the space.

The realization of this design involved the use of customized gypsum boards to create the protruding curve console. The console was meticulously installed by hand, seamlessly blending with the wall. General walls and plywood shelves were rendered with a plastered skim coat base and clear coat oil. Cupboards were filled with stained veneer and spray-painted with fluted strips.

The dimensions of the space are approximately 13410mm(L) x 5997mm(W) x 5400mm(Void H) & 2600mm(dining H). The console measures around 3967mm(L) x 423mm(D) x 1200mm(H), with a level of 550mm(H) raised from the floor finish. The curved profile has a radius of 380mm. A cantilever peddle is mounted at 4000mm(H) and above.

Fontana Haus is located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The project started in March 2022 and was completed in July 2022. The design team, led by Dom Tee Zwu Shyan as the creative director and Stephrynnn NG as the interior designer, successfully brought this unique vision to life.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award celebrates designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements. Fontana Haus stands as a testament to the innovative and resourceful approach of the design team.
