A Fusion of Tradition and Modernity

In the renovation of a 1990's apartment, Thiago Mondini faced the challenge of integrating a vast collection of antiquities and family memorabilia into a contemporary setting. The solution was to create a neutral base with white walls, allowing the furniture and decorative elements to take center stage. Drawing inspiration from mid-century designs, Mondini carefully curated a mix of styles to achieve a harmonious balance.

The highlight of the project is the use of natural ornamental rocks from Brazil. By incorporating these unique elements, Mondini adds a touch of nature and authenticity to the space. One striking feature is a large panel of backlit translucent Patagonia quartzite, which showcases an exquisite natural pattern and serves as a focal point in the living area.

The apartment spans 400 square meters, with the extended living room area covering 180 square meters. By removing walls in the living area, Mondini maximized the space and created an integrated living-dining-family room. The design not only caters to the family's daily routine but also provides ample space for hosting guests during receptions.

The layout of the apartment is carefully thought out, with the different areas divided and integrated by a recamier that connects a lounge to a TV and fireplace area. The axial organization of the spaces creates a visual balance and enhances the overall flow of the apartment.

The project, which started in 2019 and was executed during the pandemic, was completed in 2021. Located in Blumenau, Brazil, it is a testament to Mondini's ability to overcome challenges and create a space that seamlessly blends tradition and modernity.

Thiago Mondini's Contemporary Mix design has been recognized with the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in 2023. This award celebrates designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
