The "Meat Festival" is a Yakiniku Family Restaurant located in Taipei, Taiwan. The design's unique properties lie in its direct representation of the store's protagonist - raw meat. The signboard, outlined on a red bottom, interprets the brand's young and vigorous attributes with sparks of creativity.
The restaurant's layout is reminiscent of a small stall, with translucent patterned glass separating the area above the neck. This design element simulates the silhouette of countless people during peak dining hours, creating a bustling atmosphere. To further enhance this atmosphere, large flags, light boxes, children's game displays, and arch structures are used, immersing customers in a festival-like experience.
Despite the lively atmosphere, the design also considers the personal privacy of customers. The mesh screen, irregular excavation on the wall, and use of reflective materials increase the sense of interest and penetration of the space, allowing customers to participate together without disturbing each other.
The design project, which started in August 2021 and finished in September 2021, faced the challenge of balancing a bustling atmosphere with dining privacy. Through the use of arc-shaped frames, meat-shaped orifices, and translucent patterned glass of a certain height, each space area is effectively separated, maintaining the privacy of customers while considering the mobility of the space and the sense of prosperity and bustle of the festival atmosphere.
Chang Ming Hu's "Meat Festival" design was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023.
