Free Path: A Smart House Design for the Post-Pandemic Era

Creating a Multifunctional Living Space

Inspired by the concept of a hotel, Fu Chiung Hui designed Free Path, a smart house that aims to accommodate the diverse needs of individuals in the post-pandemic era. With a focus on creating a welcoming and versatile environment, this design seamlessly integrates technology and functionality to enhance the quality of living.

The living room of Free Path embodies the essence of a traveler's lounge, inviting and accommodating passengers. The home office area, cleverly hidden behind a porch grille, features a desk reminiscent of a hotel check-in counter. This unique touch adds a touch of sophistication to the space while providing a dedicated workspace for the male owner.

The dining room of Free Path is designed to replicate the experience of a theme restaurant. An elegant long table serves as the centerpiece, creating a communal atmosphere for family and friends to enjoy meals together. Each guest bedroom is arranged with a unique style, continuing the theme of diversification of hospitality designs.

One of the standout features of Free Path is the master bedroom, which offers a first-class experience. Located in a private section of the house, this space provides a tranquil retreat for the homeowner. The entertainment space on the top floor is reminiscent of a hotel banquet hall, striking a balance between entertainment and independence.

Technology plays a crucial role in the realization of Free Path. With the integration of smart systems, residents can control various aspects of their home with just the touch of a finger. From adjusting window shades to adapting the brightness of light sources based on sunlight, this design showcases the potential of technology to enhance everyday living.

The safety and convenience of residents are also prioritized in Free Path. The monitoring systems in place detect potential dangers such as fire and smoke, while security video surveillance ensures a secure living environment. The air conditioning and heating system monitors the temperature and adjusts accordingly, providing optimal comfort. Additionally, automatic vacuums are strategically placed throughout the house to maintain cleanliness at all times.

Construction of Free Path began on April 11, 2021, and was completed on March 25, 2022. Fu Chiung Hui and the design team worked diligently to overcome creative and technical challenges, resulting in a unique and innovative living space. The design has been recognized for its excellence and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in 2023 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category.

In the wake of the pandemic, Free Path serves as a testament to the adaptability and resilience of individuals. By creating a multifunctional living space that caters to various lifestyles, this design aims to reestablish interaction and communication between people, fostering a sense of community and connection.
