Revolutionizing Cinema Experience: Xintangwanke Mall International Cinema

One Plus Partnership Limited's Innovative Design Inspired by Chinese Script-Writing

The Xintangwanke Mall International Cinema, designed by One Plus Partnership Limited, is a testament to the power of innovative design. The team took inspiration from script-writing, the first step of film production, and used Chinese characters as a representation of this process. The final design features installations of Chinese radicals - the roots of Chinese characters - scattered throughout the cinema.

What sets this design apart is the use of 3D Chinese radicals made from twisted and welded metal poles. These installations vary in shape and size, overlapping and scattering elegantly throughout the cinema. The floor, finished in dark brown stone terrazzo, features metal trimmings that highlight the Chinese radical floor pattern. This theme extends to different areas in the cinema, including Chinese radical-shaped benches and neon light signage that echoes the ceiling feature.

Acoustic panels are piled up to create 3D Chinese radicals on auditorium walls, fully immersing the audience in the theme. The design team faced the challenge of incorporating Chinese characters, a cliché theme for Chinese culture, in a unique and innovative way. They succeeded in creating a design that stands out among many existing examples.

The cinema, which spans 3530 square meters, was realized using a variety of materials including metal, paint, crystal glass, clear glass, wash stone, rice stone, artificial stone, tiles, sound-absorbing panels, and carpet. The project was completed in Wuhan, China.

The Xintangwanke Mall International Cinema design was recognized with the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is granted to outstanding and trendsetting creations that advance art, science, design, and technology. The design certainly embodies these qualities, offering a unique cinema experience that is deeply rooted in Chinese culture.
