Luxe Benin: Where Art Meets Urban Opulence

Idan Chiang's Apartment Design Blends Tradition with Modern Luxury

In the heart of Taipei, a masterpiece of living space design emerges, encapsulating the essence of luxury, culture, and art. Luxe Benin, designed by Idan Chiang, is a testament to the harmonious blend of traditional elegance and contemporary sophistication.

Idan Chiang's Luxe Benin is more than an apartment; it's a canvas where every corner tells a story. The design draws from a rich palette of inspirations, marrying traditional silhouettes with modern artistic pieces. The result is a space that breathes with natural atmosphere, accentuated by ornamental lighting that mimics the delicate form of blossoms. The interplay of diverse hues and textured materials crafts a scene that is not only visually captivating but also a testament to Chiang's meticulous attention to aesthetic detail.

Perched on the 15th floor, Luxe Benin boasts a view that is nothing short of majestic. It is this urban panorama that breathes life into the design, infusing it with a sense of grandeur that is both practical and culturally rich. The apartment's classical lines speak volumes of its grandiosity, while the modern design elements are a nod to the precision of detail and proportion. Biomimetic elements and stylish decor are strategically placed to create visual harmony, integrating natural art and light fixtures with a variety of materials to stunning effect.

The realization of Luxe Benin's design is a testament to the innovative use of materials and technology. The TV wall, inspired by landscape paintings, is a mosaic of multicolored marble, framed by metal edges and a black mirrored base that reflects luxury and shine. The space is adorned with high-end furnishings and decor, including an Eichholtz table, Hermes pillows, and Louis Vuitton lighting. Creative additions like Serip organic chandeliers and a piano by Thierry Feuz add a touch of whimsy and elegance to the space.

The functionality of Luxe Benin is as impressive as its aesthetics. The apartment includes a main and second bedroom, a maid's room, multiple bathrooms, and changing rooms. The living spaces are thoughtfully designed, featuring a standalone Chinese kitchen, a light dining area with a central island, and a straightforward kitchen. A tea area, a multi-purpose room, and a working balcony complete the living experience, offering spaces for relaxation and entertainment.

Chiang's design interacts with its inhabitants in a way that is both intuitive and luxurious. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the living room with natural light, enhancing the wide vistas. A circular sofa anchors the space, while a sliding art door conceals the TV, transforming the room for family gatherings. The communal area, balanced by private rooms, includes a tea space that invites relaxation amid vibrant artwork, creating an ambiance of serene elegance.

The design of Luxe Benin was a journey that began and concluded in 2022, with Taipei serving as both the muse and the canvas for this project. Chiang's research delved into the Art Nouveau style and divergent aesthetics, culminating in a space that is not only a luxurious abode but also an art scene that pleases the senses and complements the aesthetic lifestyle of its residents.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was the integration of health-conscious features in response to the pandemic. A shared bathroom and dust area at the entrance act as a sanitary buffer, while the foyer welcomes visitors with the whimsical artworks of Thierry Feuz, leading them into a world of color and fantasy. The flower-inspired chandelier by Serip in the foyer further enhances the visual harmony and beauty of the home.

Luxe Benin is a celebration of practicality, cultural artistry, and opulence. It is a space where classical lines and modern elements coalesce, enriched by biomimetic touches and chic decor. The design's success is evident in its recognition as an Iron winner in the A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2024, a testament to its well-designed, practical, and innovative nature that integrates industry best practices and competent technical characteristics.
