Contour Of Circle: A Harmonious Blend of Art and Medicine

Chen Chiawen and Kao Yuchun's Aesthetic Clinic Design

In Tainan, Taiwan, a medical clinic transcends traditional design, integrating the fluidity of human curves with the serenity of nature, creating a therapeutic environment that mirrors the elegance of the human form.

The 'Contour Of Circle' project, conceived by designers Chen Chiawen and Kao Yuchun, is a testament to the symbiosis of art and functionality within a medical aesthetic clinic. The design draws inspiration from the human body's natural curves and the inherent symmetry that signifies health and vitality. This approach is rooted in biomimicry, where the continuity and diversity of the body's form are celebrated through smooth, intersecting surfaces and rounded details, fostering an aesthetic connection that surpasses geometric shapes.

Distinctively positioned on the ground floor of a luxurious residential building, the clinic emerges as an urban oasis. The surrounding lush vegetation and water features set the stage for an entrance that feels like a passage into tranquility. The clinic's design leverages metal, glass, wooden elements, and art paint to craft an environment that is not only functional but also visually and emotionally engaging.

Spanning 518 square meters, the clinic's interior is a warm palette of colors that evoke a sense of comfort and calm. The designers have meticulously used arcs and warm hues to soften the clinical atmosphere, ensuring that the space is inviting. The reception area, designed to resemble a budding flower, and the circular motifs on the ceiling, reflect the clinic's dedication to beauty and patient care.

Privacy is paramount in the clinic's layout, with the lobby's curved lines and surfaces creating discreet spaces for clients. The design's interaction with its visitors is further enhanced on the second floor, where wooden flooring and striped glass maintain privacy while expanding the perceived space. The design's recurring arcs and symmetrical forms pay homage to the human body, with neutral tones mitigating the clinical impression and emphasizing the clinic's commitment to aesthetic harmony.

Challenges such as integrating the clinic's design with the existing narrow voids were overcome by creating dynamic vertical spaces that add a playful element to the reception hall and seating area. The design's arcs are visible through floor-to-ceiling windows, compensating for the static exterior facade. The clinic's design not only emphasizes the beauty of curves but also incorporates natural elements through material choices, such as hand-painted faux stone textures and straight-grain glass, blending seamlessly with the outdoor environment.

This innovative project, which has been recognized with a Silver A' Design Award, showcases the designers' ability to create a space that not only meets the functional needs of a medical clinic but also provides a sanctuary that uplifts and inspires. The 'Contour Of Circle' stands as a pinnacle of design excellence, where every element works in concert to offer a holistic experience that is both aesthetically pleasing and emotionally resonant.
