Vive La Vie: A Home Baked in Comfort and Style

Chun Yu Chang Crafts a Residence Inspired by the Art of Baking

Discover how a 28-year-old apartment transforms into a retirement sanctuary, blending the love for baking with innovative design.

In the heart of a pre-owned apartment, Chun Yu Chang introduces a design that marries the future needs of retirement with the passion for baking. The space, reimagined through the lens of culinary artistry, is infused with the warmth of light brown wood and the softness of milky tones, reminiscent of the ingredients found in a baker's kitchen. The residence, named Vive La Vie, is a testament to the adaptability and creativity in modern interior design, where everyday passions inspire living spaces.

Chun Yu Chang's unique approach to design is evident in the residence's ability to capture natural light, akin to the glow of a daylight-baked macaron. The reconfiguration of windows and strategic placement of air conditioners maximize sunlight penetration, enhancing the home's airy ambiance. Furniture selections and LED lighting installations complement the design's overarching theme, emphasizing curvature and fluidity, much like the shapes of freshly baked goods.

The tactile experience within Vive La Vie is as important as its visual appeal. Fabric-patterned tiles grace the floors, offering both practicality and a soft, quilted appearance. Special paint with a handmade texture adds depth and warmth, inviting touch and fostering a sense of comfort. The foyer's tiles, stain-resistant yet rich in texture, serve as a focal point, drawing the eye with their intricate patterns and subtle color variations.

Chun Yu Chang's meticulous attention to detail extends to the technical aspects of the design. The 135-square-meter space, with its four rooms and communal areas, employs material contrasts and curvilinear forms to create an illusion of spaciousness. The TV wall design cleverly incorporates circulation paths, while the use of embossed glass and circular light bars throughout the space reinforces the design's cohesive style.

The interaction with Vive La Vie is a curated experience, with each private area thoughtfully adjusted to ensure equality in living spaces. The design accommodates the practicalities of retirement living, such as a no-step entry to the master bathroom for enhanced safety. The kitchen and dining room are equipped for professional baking without compromising the residence's inviting aesthetic. Seasonal functions are also considered, with social areas designed to adapt to various occasions.

Chun Yu Chang's Vive La Vie is more than a residence; it's a celebration of life's simple pleasures, like the joy of baking. The design's soft curves and warm tones evoke the sensation of dough rising in the sun, creating an atmosphere that's both comforting and inspiring. This Iron A' Design Award-winning project, completed in July 2023 in Taiwan, is a delicious work of art that unlocks a relaxed lifestyle for its inhabitants.
