Fitness Club: A Revolutionary Approach to Gym Design

Designer Fuxi Lu Transforms Traditional Gym Spaces with Innovative Design

In an era where fitness is not just a routine but a lifestyle, the design of fitness spaces plays a crucial role in enhancing the user experience. Fuxi Lu, a renowned designer, has revolutionized the traditional gym space with his unique design approach in his latest project, Fitness Club. The project, which won the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019, is a testament to Lu's innovative design philosophy and his ability to transform spaces into engaging environments.

Fuxi Lu's inspiration for the Fitness Club design stemmed from the understanding that the quality of the atmosphere directly influences the use of space. With most gyms being relatively closed and having small window areas, Lu decided to break away from the conventional gym style. He aimed to create a space where guests could experience a unique atmosphere as soon as they entered the gym.

The Fitness Club project was not just a design upgrade but also a major adjustment in operation and management. Lu designed the layout to be as open as possible, keeping in mind the original features of the building and the functional housing needs. This approach made the spatial pattern more flexible, resulting in a club-style gym that aligns with the brand's spirit.

The realization of the Fitness Club design involved the use of fan-shaped elements and arranged mirror shapes. The color scheme was dominated by coffee, black, and gray, intended to create a strong perceived spatial tension. The primary materials used were wood grain ground glue, sports ground glue, cement board, iron board, floor tile, and mercury mirror.

The project, which covers a total of 2200 square meters, features fan-shaped design elements that give a powerful and dynamic visual impact. The dynamic bicycle room, designed near the reception hall, can be seen through a window, igniting the enthusiasm for fitness in guests as they enter the reception area.

The Fitness Club project, which started in October 2017 in Nanning and finished in April 2018, posed several challenges. The relatively closed venues and small window areas required the designer to consider architectural deconstruction limitations. Moreover, the owner wanted a fitness space that didn't have the cliché gym feeling. Despite these challenges, Lu and his team, including Qiuju Chen, Binbin Huang, and Han Pang, successfully created a modern sports space that people desire.

In conclusion, Fuxi Lu's Fitness Club design is a revolutionary approach to gym design. It breaks away from the traditional gym style and creates a unique atmosphere that enhances the user experience. The project's success and its recognition with the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2019 are a testament to Lu's innovative design philosophy and his ability to transform spaces into engaging environments.
