Archermit's Woyun Platform, the entrance exhibition center for the Giant Panda National Park, is a public building that transcends traditional design. Inspired by the lush bamboo forests, enveloping mists, and glacial debris of Pengzhou, the platform is a three-dimensional landscape park city that invites visitors to experience the natural allure of the region within its spatial confines. This architectural gem is a response to Chengdu's "park city" development framework, aiming to integrate the city's core landscape elements into a singular, breathtaking experience.
The uniqueness of the Woyun Platform lies in its multi-layered structure, which mirrors the geological features of its surroundings. The ground floor's "bamboo forest" serves as a communal space for rural engagement, while the "mists" above provide a cultural exposition realm. The "debris" crowning the structure offers a tranquil leisure area. This tiered approach not only creates a visually stunning building but also establishes distinct zones for interaction, culture, and relaxation.
Archermit's innovative approach to lighting technology is a cornerstone of the Woyun Platform's design. By utilizing side wash wall lamps and strategically placed LED project-light lamps, the team crafted a celestial dome that mimics a star-filled sky. This lighting design not only enhances the building's nighttime aesthetic but also contributes to a dreamlike ambiance that transforms the cloud platform into a universe of stars.
With a building area of 2,210 square meters, the Woyun Platform's technical specifications are a testament to Archermit's commitment to precision and sustainability. The design team, led by Youcai Pan and including partners Zhe Yang and Renzhen Chen, employed a method of dividing circular curves into straight lines, reducing construction costs without compromising the architectural impact. The aluminum veneer's production was optimized for local manufacturing capabilities, ensuring both cost-effectiveness and high quality.
The Woyun Platform is not just an architectural marvel; it's an interactive experience. The white 'bamboo forest' at its base supports the 'clouds' above, where villagers and visitors alike congregate, creating a vibrant tapestry of community life. The design's interaction with its environment is further enhanced by the reflection of the landscape in the water, creating a picturesque scene that blends rural vitality with contemporary art.
Completed in September 2021 in Longmenshan Town, Sichuan Province, the Woyun Platform overcame numerous creative and technical challenges to achieve its starry dome effect. The design's success is a testament to Archermit's dedication to innovation, earning it the Golden A' Design Award in 2024. This accolade is reserved for designs that significantly impact the world, embodying extraordinary excellence and advancing art, science, design, and technology.
Archermit's Woyun Platform is more than an award-winning structure; it is a cultural beacon that harmoniously blends the essence of Pengzhou's natural landscape with the spirit of community and the power of innovative design.
