At the heart of a bustling residential area, a new architectural icon emerges, courtesy of designer Kris Lin. Dubbed 'Jenga,' this 1200 square meter community public building serves as a gateway to urban living, offering commercial, administrative, and social spaces. Despite the challenges posed by an irregular plot and stringent building regulations, Lin's design stands as a testament to creative problem-solving and architectural ingenuity.
The Jenga concept is not just a playful nod to childhood memories; it's a strategic response to spatial constraints. Each 'block' of the building is meticulously designed to fulfill a specific purpose, from commercial ventures to community gatherings. The façade's window display is more than an aesthetic choice—it's a transparent invitation to explore the building's interior life.
Functionality meets form as the project employs a steel structure for its core, ensuring both stability and a sense of lightness. The choice of aluminum for the exterior walls is deliberate, allowing for flexibility and a sleek finish. The design's rounded curves soften the building's edges, presenting a friendly face to the community it serves.
By night, the building transforms into a luminous beacon. Aluminum plates interlaced with LED light strips create a visual spectacle that elevates the structure to a work of art. The integration of architecture, landscape, and interior design results in a seamless experience, blurring the lines between the building and its surroundings.
The Jenga building is not just a place; it's a dynamic interaction of spaces. It redefines the entrance to the residential community, stacking functions vertically to overcome land shortages. This approach not only maximizes utility but also establishes the building as a landmark, enhancing the identity of the area.
From its inception in July 2021 to its completion in January 2022, the Jenga project has been a journey of innovation and community transformation. It stands as a Golden A' Design Award winner, a recognition of its excellence and impact on the world of architecture, design, and community development.
