Fracture: A Unique Blend of Art and Functionality

Deconstructivism Meets Sanitary Ware in Tolga BERKAY's Award-Winning Design

Inspired by the style of deconstructivism, Tolga BERKAY's 'Fracture' is a unique ceramic sanitary ware set that brings a remarkable design of fractured glass lines into the bathroom. This innovative design, which won the Golden A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2012, challenges traditional aesthetics and functionality, offering a fresh perspective on bathroom design.

The Fracture set is a testament to BERKAY's ability to blend form and function seamlessly. The design, which includes a WC pan with a monoblok cistern, a wallhung WC pan, a countertop washbasin, and furniture, is realized using a variety of materials. Ceramic, vitreous china, fine fire clay, and wood come together to create a set that is as durable as it is aesthetically pleasing.

What sets Fracture apart from other designs is its unique style. BERKAY has taken the concept of deconstructivism and applied it to sanitary ware, resulting in a design that appears to be covered with fractured glass. This innovative approach not only adds a unique visual element to the set but also challenges the traditional aesthetics of bathroom design.

Creating the Fracture set was not without its challenges. BERKAY had to ensure that the technical restrictions did not compromise the overall appearance of the fractured glass-like surfaces. Additionally, the design had to appear as if it was one part, even though it was a combination of several parts. This required intensive research and careful design planning.

The Fracture set was designed in Bilecik, Turkey, and took almost a year to complete. It was exhibited at the Unicera Fair in March 2012 and has since received recognition for its innovative design. The set was awarded the Golden A' Bathroom Furniture and Sanitary Ware Design Award in 2012, a prestigious accolade that recognizes outstanding and trendsetting creations.

In conclusion, Tolga BERKAY's Fracture set is a perfect example of how art and functionality can come together to create a unique and innovative design. It challenges traditional aesthetics and offers a fresh perspective on bathroom design, making it a worthy winner of the Golden A' Design Award.
