Unveiling the Hills Sales Centre: A Testament to Ancient Chinese Geography

Kris Lin's Award-Winning Design Reflects Taiyuan's Rich History and Landscape

Located in the heart of Taiyuan city, Shanxi Province, China, the Hills Sales Centre is a real estate sales centre that pays homage to the city's 4700-year-old history and its unique geographical features. This innovative project, designed by Kris Lin, has been awarded the prestigious Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2014.

The Hills Sales Centre, named after the high mountains and hills that define Shanxi Highland's landscape, stands as a testament to the city's human geography. The design concept, inspired by the city's natural landscape, is reflected in the centre's negotiating sofa area, bar, multimedia display area, model display area, and reception area. The centre's design is a fusion of modern architecture and natural elements, with sculptures and three-dimensional cuttings forming the shape of mountains or palisades.

The model display area, designed to resemble a cave, further emphasizes the centre's theme. The journey to the second floor, through the cave and steps, is akin to a walk through a tunnel. Inside this tunnel, three-dimensional cuttings represent the cliffy rock in the valley, with the color of the wood veneer symbolizing soil. This design element creates a sense of continuity and flow, reflecting the irregular and curved space on site due to the building's exterior wall.

Emerging from the narrow tunnel, visitors are welcomed into the bright residential house type display area for Shiwaitaoyuan. This area houses three mock-ups, designed to showcase a perfect human life and paradise. The transition from the narrow tunnel to the bright display area is a deliberate design choice, symbolizing the journey from the rugged natural landscape to the comfort of modern living.

Kris Lin, the Design Director, and Jiayu Yang, also a Design Director, were the key figures behind this innovative project. Their design philosophy, which emphasizes the integration of natural elements with modern architecture, is evident in every aspect of the Hills Sales Centre. The project's success is a testament to their creative vision and design prowess.

The Hills Sales Centre's design, which reflects Taiyuan's rich history and unique landscape, has earned it the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2014. This award is granted to creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics. The Hills Sales Centre, with its innovative design and homage to Taiyuan's geography, certainly fits this description.
