A unique console made of painted wood with a stone finish, the Mabrada console stands out with its incorporation of an old authentic coffee grinder from the Ottoman period. The shape of an old Jordanian coffee cooler, known as Mabrada, was reproduced and sculpted to stand as one of the legs on the opposite side of the console where the grinder sits. This combination creates a fascinating piece for a foyer or living room, adding a touch of history and culture to your space.
The Mabrada console is crafted using new and old wood, along with special effect paint. The old coffee grinder and its board are also integrated into the design, further enhancing its authenticity and uniqueness.
With dimensions of 120cm in length, 31cm in depth, and a height of 80cm till the top of the console and 119cm till the top of the grinder, this console is designed to make a statement in any space.
This design not only serves as a functional piece of furniture but also as a conversation starter. It pays homage to traditional handicrafts and heritage pieces that are slowly fading away. By incorporating these elements into a modern console, May Khoury aims to preserve and revive our cultural heritage, especially for the younger generation.
The Mabrada console was produced by an artisan carpenter in Amman, Jordan, over a period of two months. May Khoury's dedication to reviving traditional heritage pieces is evident in her meticulous research and attention to detail.
This design was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2014 in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category. The award recognizes the outstanding expertise and innovation demonstrated by the Mabrada console. It showcases a remarkable level of excellence, combining technical characteristics with artistic skill to evoke positive feelings of amazement and wonder.
