The Hostess of the Copper Mountain

A Magical Fusion of Femininity and Masculinity

Daria Zhiliaeva's graduate collection is about femininity and masculinity, strength and fragility. The collection's inspiration comes from an old fairy tale from Russian literature.

Daria Zhiliaeva, a talented young designer, has created a mesmerizing womenswear collection called "The Hostess of the Copper Mountain." Drawing inspiration from an old Russian fairy tale, Zhiliaeva beautifully combines the elements of femininity and masculinity, strength and fragility in her designs.

The Hostess of the Copper Mountain is a magical patron of miners in the fairy tale, and this collection pays homage to their world. The designer skillfully marries the straight lines of miner's uniforms with the graceful volumes of Russian national costumes. The result is a unique and captivating fusion of contrasting elements.

What sets this collection apart is not only its concept but also its execution. Zhiliaeva has meticulously designed each piece, paying attention to every detail. The collection features straight lines and gorgeous volumes, with materials such as linen and imitation leather. The textile design, created by Zhiliaeva herself, adds an extra layer of uniqueness to the collection.

Using digital printing on linen, the designer brings her illustrations and paintings to life, incorporating them into the garments. This technique adds depth and visual interest to the collection, making each piece truly one-of-a-kind.

The Hostess of the Copper Mountain collection consists of eight outfits, all in size 40. Each item showcases the designer's exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. The collection was realized using linen and imitation leather, with digital printing techniques employed to bring the illustrations to life.

Throughout the design process, Zhiliaeva conducted extensive research on Russian costumes and miners' clothing. She drew inspiration from the original uniform of American miners from the 1960s, incorporating details such as pockets, collars, and closures into her designs. The graceful volumes of Russian national costumes added a touch of elegance and femininity to the collection.

The project began in October 2012 and was completed in July 2013 in Florence, Italy, as part of Zhiliaeva's graduate studies at the institute Polimoda. It was a year-long endeavor that required dedication and perseverance to bring the designer's vision to life.

The Hostess of the Copper Mountain collection has garnered recognition and acclaim in the fashion industry. In 2014, it was awarded the prestigious Silver A' Design Award in the Fashion, Apparel, and Garment Design category. This award recognizes designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. Zhiliaeva's collection stood out for its technical excellence and ability to evoke positive emotions and wonder.

Daria Zhiliaeva's "The Hostess of the Copper Mountain" collection is a testament to her talent and creativity. By blending contrasting elements and drawing inspiration from a rich cultural heritage, she has created a truly remarkable and enchanting collection.
