Ginevra Grilz's Award-Winning Design Emphasizes Form over Function

Grilz's inspiration for this design came from a desire to create furniture pieces devoid of any practical or aesthetic aim. Instead, the focus is on the form, seen as substance rather than decorative appearance. This approach results in a design where the object's function is secondary to its typical form.

The Barbecue Stool stands out due to its dematerialized design philosophy. The entire structure can be disassembled, and each component is identifiable and traceable to its original state. This unique property sets the Barbecue Stool apart from other furniture pieces, highlighting its innovative design.

The stool is constructed using varnished flat and tubular steel, with a cushion made of cotton. Available in a variety of colors including brick red, dove gray, charcoal, turquoise, purple, yellow, and white, the stool measures 34cm in diameter and 45cm in height. This design is not only simple but also fully recyclable, reflecting Grilz's commitment to sustainable design practices.

The Barbecue Stool is part of the "Vessel Collection," which began in April 2006 at the Fuori Salone in Milan. Since then, the collection has been showcased at various international events, including the International Furnishing Show in Cologne and the XXIII World Congress of Architecture Architektonika in Turin.

Grilz's design approach goes beyond practical and aesthetic goals, favoring an appreciation of seamless plastic art. The weight of the stool, which is part of the substance of the object, is precisely the weight of the structure, not more, not less. This approach reflects Grilz's philosophy of dematerialization, where the design is simple and the blueprints are the ultimate expression of this philosophy.

The Barbecue Stool has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2014.
