Alhajri's fascination with Arabic writing and calligraphic art stems from his cultural background and personal identity. He believes that Arabic calligraphy is not just a form of artistic expression, but also a reflection of his Omani heritage. Through his contemporary Arabic calligraphy designs, Alhajri aims to introduce a new aesthetic perspective and create unusual visual effects that viewers can easily interact with.
What sets Alhajri's artworks apart is his innovative use of technology. He employs graphic software like Adobe Illustrator and Kelk to design his pieces, exploring the aesthetic features of Arabic calligraphy in a digital realm. The final designs are then printed on high-quality coated canvas using a high-resolution LaserJet printer, resulting in limited edition graphical artworks.
Each artwork is meticulously crafted, taking more than 20 hours to design and one hour to print and produce. Alhajri's attention to detail and dedication to his craft is evident in the intricate compositions, color harmony, shapes, contrasts, and lines of his artworks. While words and phrases appear in his pieces, they do not convey direct meanings. Instead, viewers are encouraged to create their own interpretations and appreciate the beauty of the Arabic letters themselves.
Alhajri's contemporary Arabic calligraphy art challenges the traditional notions of the art form. It represents a fusion of art and technology, showcasing the intersection between creativity and new media applications. By pushing the boundaries of Arabic calligraphy, Alhajri opens up new possibilities for exploration and investigation within this art style.
Recognizing the significance of his work, Alhajri's contemporary Arabic calligraphy designs have been awarded the prestigious Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation category. This accolade acknowledges his outstanding creativity and resourcefulness in incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
Through his unique blend of tradition and technology, Dr. Salman Alhajri has breathed new life into Arabic calligraphy. His contemporary artworks not only pay homage to the rich cultural heritage of the Arabic language but also inspire viewers to appreciate the beauty and flexibility of Arabic letters in a fresh and innovative way.
