XoomRooms: A Modular Wall System for Easy and Versatile Living

Creating Private Spaces in a Snap

The XoomRooms residential wall system, designed by James Hoefler, is revolutionizing the way we live by providing a simple and versatile solution for creating private spaces within our homes. Inspired by the need to sublet a section of his daughters' apartment, Hoefler designed and built a modular wall system that is lightweight, easy to assemble and disassemble, and leaves no marks on the floor or ceiling.

What sets XoomRooms apart from other wall systems is its DIY approach. With just an Allen wrench, homeowners can create entirely new and private spaces in their existing rooms. The system consists of poles that anchor the walls between the floor and ceiling, and connecting members that securely connect the panels to the poles and to each other. The adjustable design works for any ceiling height up to 3.5 meters, and can be set up in an infinite variety of straight and angled configurations.

One of the key strengths of XoomRooms is its sturdiness. The poles can handle 20 kg of lateral stress when properly installed, ensuring a safe and secure environment. When it's time to remove the walls, there are no marks left behind on the floor or ceiling, making it an ideal solution for both homeowners and renters. Additionally, the lightweight components of the system lay flat and store easily when not in use, allowing for efficient storage.

The XoomRooms wall system was developed through extensive trial-and-error, with Hoefler emphasizing the importance of testing and listening to mass production professionals. The result is a product that can be replicated in volume, ensuring its availability to a mass audience.

Technical specifications of the XoomRooms wall system include a pole base made of miter-folded MDF clad with laminate, measuring 5.7 cm x 5.7 cm x 230 cm. The pole extension is made of aluminum, measuring 1.9 cm round x 152 cm high. The bottom plate is made of HDPE, measuring 5.7 cm x 5.7 cm x 1.9 cm, while the top plate is made of plastic, measuring 7.5 cm round x 3 cm high. The connecting pressure plates are made of MDF, measuring 1.9 cm x 3.8 cm x 230 cm. The wall panels, which can be chosen by the consumer, are laminated MDF, measuring 1.6 cm x 50 cm x 230 cm.

The XoomRooms wall system has garnered recognition and accolades within the design industry. In 2014, it was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Building Materials and Construction Components Design category. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding expertise and innovation demonstrated by the design, highlighting its technical characteristics and artistic skill.

With XoomRooms, homeowners now have the freedom to create private spaces within their homes without the need for permanent renovations. This modular wall system offers convenience, versatility, and aesthetic appeal, making it a game-changer in the way we live our lives.
