Minimum Post Disaster Dwelling: A Transparent Modular House by altro_studio

A Unique Solution for Temporary Housing

altro_studio, an innovative design team, presents a groundbreaking solution for post-disaster housing with their minimum post disaster dwelling. This transparent modular house offers a unique approach to temporary housing, combining simplicity, functionality, and sustainability.

The design of the minimum post disaster dwelling is inspired by the concept of a house as a dress that can be worn. The structure is entirely transparent and aligned with a traditional house style, providing a sense of familiarity and comfort in a temporary living space. What sets this design apart is its modular nature, making it easy to assemble, disassemble, and transport to different locations.

The house is composed of three inflatable elements, each measuring 2.50m in length, 2.30m in height, and 1.5m in thickness. These modules are anchored to the ground using a system of steel platforms, ensuring stability and durability. The modules are connected through zip closings, creating a waterproof seal that prevents water from seeping into the walls.

Once the desired length of the house is determined, each module is concluded with non-inflatable plugging panels that can accommodate doors or windows as needed. These elements not only provide ventilation but also feature a side zip closing system for easy access. Additionally, the designers envision incorporating inflatable and transparent furniture pieces, such as armchairs, sofas, beds, tables, and showers, to further enhance the functionality of the space.

Electric energy for the minimum post disaster dwelling is generated using amorphous silicon modules, which are set on the inclined external surface facing south. This energy-efficient system, combined with the use of prefabricated zip closings, ensures self-sufficiency and sustainability.

With a compact size of 10 square meters, the minimum post disaster dwelling offers a practical and efficient living space. Its transparent design allows occupants to connect with the surrounding environment, providing a sense of openness and freedom. The modular structure allows for easy customization and adaptation to different needs and locations.

altro_studio's research and experimentation with extreme spaces have led to the development of this innovative design. By challenging traditional architectural rules and embracing contrasting elements, they have created a unique living experience. The minimum post disaster dwelling represents a new way of perceiving space, where architecture becomes a cloth to wear and bring along, adapting to individual needs and preferences.

This groundbreaking design has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2015, a prestigious accolade that celebrates outstanding expertise and creativity. The minimum post disaster dwelling showcases the potential of design to address real-world challenges and provide practical solutions for temporary housing.
