Infusing Eastern Elements with Contemporary Design

Inspired by the concept of weaving, the Great China Wedding Banquet design takes the primary design framework of threads to create a 3-dimensional spatial atmosphere. The goal is to provide young newlyweds with a diverse sensory experience that combines Eastern elements with a contemporary Western atmosphere.

One of the standout features of this design is the 8.5-meter high square ceiling in the reception hall, which recreates the shape of official headwear from the Ming dynasty. The use of gold and brown hues, along with various materials and forms, creates an understated calmness that signifies an awareness of traditional culture. The integration of tradition and contemporary concepts is represented through the rhythm of lines, creating ripples in the seemingly tranquil reception hall.

The design also incorporates semi-open space allocation, using combinations of metallic iron and variations in media to divide functional areas. Transparent glass is combined with crosshatched square metal pipes, and translucent marble is merged with grid-patterned metal framing. The banquet halls in the front building feature surfaces with varying directions, creating a diamond-themed imagery and a walk-of-fame-like walkway that reflects variations of the tinted mirrors on the walls.

Located in Changhua County, Taiwan, the Great China Wedding Banquet project started in June 2013 and was completed in December 2013. The design team, led by Chin-Hsu Huang, also included Yi-Jing Liao and Chun-Chieh Chan. The design aimed to preserve the uniqueness of the local culture while creating a Western atmosphere and integrating contemporary design techniques.

This exceptional design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2015 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. The award recognizes designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
