Vinylize Toney: Upcycled Eyewear Made from Vinyl Records

Transforming Unwanted Vinyl Records into Stylish Frames

Vinylize Toney is an optical frame upcycled from unwanted vinyl records, designed by Zachary Milaskey.

Vinylize Toney is a unique eyewear design that combines sustainability, comfort, and style. Inspired by the abundance of vinyl records, designer Zachary Milaskey saw an opportunity to repurpose this material and create something truly innovative. The fusion of vinyl records with cellulose acetate allows opticians to easily insert prescription lenses while giving the frames a distinctive black look.

One of the standout features of Vinylize Toney is its use of old records, which gives the frames a rugged and edgy aesthetic. The grooves of the vinyl records are an integral part of the design, making each frame unique. The frame's large and thick construction, combined with its modern angular shape, complements the popular beard trend.

Aside from its striking appearance, Vinylize Toney is designed for durability and comfort. The temples are made from hypoallergenic cellulose acetate and house a metal core, allowing for easy adjustments. The fusion of vinyl with acetate creates a tension in the material, making the frames more comfortable over time. Unlike traditional eyewear materials that lose their shape, Vinylize Toney maintains its fit and shape even after years of wear.

Produced in-house in Hungary, Vinylize developed a unique method to laminate, form, and machine vinyl records. By fusing vinyl to classic ivory-colored cellulose acetate, the frames not only showcase the grooves but also match the color of the temples to the vinyl record. The use of rivets adds a touch of old-world quality and ensures the durability of the design.

Vinylize Toney has received recognition for its exceptional design and innovation. In 2015, it was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category. This prestigious award highlights the outstanding expertise and creativity demonstrated by the Vinylize team.

With Vinylize Toney, Zachary Milaskey has successfully transformed unwanted vinyl records into stylish and sustainable eyewear. Each frame tells a unique story, showcasing the beauty of upcycling and the possibilities of combining art, design, and technology.
