Soul Ring: A Unique Blend of Latvian Heritage and Contemporary Design

Rediscovering Latvian Symbols and Feelings

Inspired by the rich cultural heritage of Latvia, designer Anita Sondore has created the Soul Ring, a stunning piece of jewelry that combines traditional Latvian symbols with contemporary design elements. This unique ring is a testament to Sondore's creativity and her ability to infuse new life into age-old traditions.

The Soul Ring draws inspiration from Latvian ethnographic ornaments, but Sondore has given these traditional designs a modern twist. By using unusual gemstones, precious metals, and striking color combinations, she has transformed the already beautiful heritage into something truly extraordinary. The ring features 750 rose gold, diamonds, tourmalines, and a rhodium satin finish, resulting in a piece that is both elegant and eye-catching.

One of the key strengths of the Soul Ring is its versatility. It can be worn comfortably on its own or paired with the Diamond Moonlight Ring from Sondore's Sounds of Silence collection. This allows wearers to create their own unique combinations and express their individual style.

The design and production of the Soul Ring involved a meticulous process. From the initial mood board and hand-drawn sketches to the final creation in wax and metal, it took approximately eight months to bring this piece to life. The first presentation of the collection took place in Riga in March 2014, followed by a showcase at the New Designers Gallery in JA New York Summer Show later that year.

Sondore's research for the Soul Ring was rooted in Riga's remarkable Art Nouveau architecture and the exploration of Latvian ethnographic heritage, including ornaments, folk songs, and symbols of power. By delving into these cultural elements, she was able to create a design that not only pays homage to the past but also resonates with contemporary audiences.

One of the challenges Sondore faced during the creation of the Soul Ring was striking a balance between historical authenticity and contemporary aesthetics. Rather than replicating historical symbols, she aimed to reinterpret their meaning and appearance through a modern lens. The result is a piece that can be cherished by women of all generations, passed down from mother to daughter, and appreciated for its timeless beauty.

The Soul Ring has garnered recognition and acclaim in the design world. In 2015, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Jewelry, Eyewear, and Watch Design category. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skill, while also contributing to the improvement of quality of life.

The Soul Ring is not just a piece of jewelry; it is a symbol of Latvia's cultural heritage and a testament to Anita Sondore's talent and vision. With its unique blend of tradition and innovation, this ring is a true work of art that captures the essence of Latvian symbols and feelings.
