M House: A Fun and Ecofriendly Holiday Home

M House, designed by Anson Cheng, is a fun holiday home that has been consciously designed to be ecofriendly. The building showcases how mezzanine spaces can be utilized to draw sunlight in through its skylights and windows, maximizing the use of natural light. The strategic use of sliding doors enhances the sense of space, creating a seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors.

One of the key features of M House is its ecofriendly design. Anson Cheng prioritized the use of natural materials and products with low or no VOC content, ensuring a healthier living environment for the occupants. The house also incorporates folding doors in the living room, which not only enhance the connection between inside and outside but also increase the depth of the space, improve ventilation, and introduce ample sunlight.

What sets M House apart is its vibrant and lively design elements. Anson Cheng has added touches of bright colors and artistic embellishments, such as LED lamps, throughout the house, creating a strong sense of personality and warmth. The use of primary colors, particularly white, helps to capture and maximize the available daylight, further reducing the need for artificial lighting.

With a size of 2554 ft², M House provides ample space for relaxation and enjoyment. The house is located in Sai Kung, Hong Kong, and the project was completed in June 2014 after starting in January of the same year.

Despite the challenges of cost control associated with using ecofriendly and natural materials, Anson Cheng successfully created a holiday home that is both environmentally conscious and visually appealing. M House has been recognized for its outstanding design and creativity, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2015. This prestigious award acknowledges designs that demonstrate technical and creative excellence while contributing to improvements in quality of life.
