The logo takes inspiration from the initial "A" of the word Architecture, transforming it from a 2D graphic into a 3D sculpture. The designers chose wood as the primary material, aligning with ecological requirements and showcasing the distinctive characteristics of architectural specialty. The logo's construction method is unique, connecting the wooden elements in a mode that reflects the College's architectural expertise.
What sets this entrance logo apart is its explicit meaning and visual impact. The sculptural form represents the College's commitment to innovation and creativity in the field of architecture. It serves as a symbol of the College's identity and leaves a lasting impression on visitors.
The realization of this design involved the use of a simple and formal language, incorporating the traditional Chinese connection method of mortise and tenon joints. This construction technique creates an orderly and rotatory space, showcasing the variations along the x-axis, y-axis, and z-axis. The materials used include wood, 5mm planks, steel wire, and screws.
The dimensions of the entrance logo are 170mm in width, 260mm in depth, and 210mm in height. Its compact size allows for easy integration into the College's entrance area.
The project, which started in April 2014 and concluded in May 2014, was exhibited at the College of Architecture Southwest Jiaotong University in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, China. The design team, consisting of Tao Huang, Guangchao Wei, Xin Luo, Junyan Zhang, Shengli Lu, Kai Yue, Shouwang Luo, and Lei Zhang, faced numerous challenges during the construction process. However, their dedication and problem-solving skills allowed them to overcome these obstacles and create a truly remarkable piece of art.
The entrance logo for the College of Architecture has received recognition for its excellence. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category in 2015. This prestigious accolade acknowledges the design's outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The logo's technical characteristics and aesthetic appeal evoke positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
