Echoes: A Sculptural Masterpiece by Kuo-Hsiang Kuo

Exploring the Beauty of Water through Art

Echoes, a stunning sculpture created by renowned designer Kuo-Hsiang Kuo, captures the essence of water and its mesmerizing ripples. With its unique design and innovative use of materials, this artwork stands as a testament to the beauty of nature and the power of artistic expression.

Based on the concept of "water," Echoes draws inspiration from the gentle concentric circles created when water droplets fall on a calm surface. Just as an actor unites intellectual vitality with physical energy, water displays a range of scenes, from gentle to violent, captivating audiences worldwide. Kuo-Hsiang Kuo's vision is to capture these breathtaking moments and bring them to life through his art.

What sets Echoes apart is Kuo-Hsiang Kuo's ability to transform ordinary materials into extraordinary works of art. With a deep appreciation for life and nature, he explores the potential of materials and techniques, breathing new life into them. Through his magical hands and creative ideas, Kuo-Hsiang Kuo gives these materials a valuable new purpose, while also conveying a message of sustainability and the importance of treasuring our earth's resources.

Echoes is made using a combination of stainless steel and glass, carefully chosen to represent the clarity and brightness of water in the sun. The mirrored stainless steel and glass surfaces reflect light, creating a stunning visual effect that mimics the play of light on water. The sculpture measures H250* W270 * D150 cm, making it an imposing presence that demands attention.

One of the biggest challenges in creating Echoes was expressing a spiritual concept through an abstract approach. Kuo-Hsiang Kuo carefully selected materials that could effectively convey his inner feelings, as different materials speak different languages in the realm of art. By choosing stainless steel and glass, he was able to evoke the vision of people working together to build a beautiful world from different positions.

Combining stainless steel and glass presented another challenge due to their different natures in production. Kuo-Hsiang Kuo faced numerous trials and errors before finding a way to seamlessly integrate the two materials, resulting in a harmonious and natural composition.

Since its creation in 2014 in Taiwan, Echoes has garnered recognition and acclaim. It was exhibited at The 26th UBE Biennale at the UBE tokiwa Museum in Japan, captivating audiences with its ethereal beauty. In 2019, Echoes was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Fine Arts and Art Installation Design category. This prestigious accolade recognizes the outstanding creativity and ingenuity of the design, as well as its contribution to improving the quality of life.

Echoes is not just a sculpture; it is an experience. Its dimensions are carefully planned to allow people to interact with it up close, creating a sense of connection and immersion. At night, hidden lights within the stainless steel water droplets transform Echoes into a luminous body, seemingly floating in the air.

Through Echoes, Kuo-Hsiang Kuo invites us to contemplate the beauty and power of water. This sculpture serves as a reminder to cherish our natural resources and work together to build a more sustainable and beautiful world.
