Each piece in the Micro Matter series is unique, featuring a variety of scenes from towering skyscrapers to quaint campsites. The upside-down test tubes serve as tiny domes, creating a sense of isolation from the outside world. Despite their minuscule size, the sculptures are rich in detail, reflecting Jong's meticulous handiwork and keen eye for design.
The creation of these miniature worlds is a testament to Jong's patience and precision. Using tools such as tweezers and small knives, she crafts these intricate pieces from materials like cardboard, sticks, train model materials, wire, and sand. The result is a collection of tiny dioramas, each with its own unique story to tell.
Micro Matter was initiated in the summer of 2015 and continues to evolve. The series was exhibited at SKB Amsterdam in March and April 2016, where it was met with admiration and intrigue. Despite the project's humble beginnings as a hobby, it has since garnered significant recognition.
In 2016, Micro Matter was awarded the Platinum A' Fine Arts and Art Installation Design Award. This prestigious accolade recognizes world-class, exceptional, and highly innovative designs that contribute to societal wellbeing. It is a testament to Jong's creativity and craftsmanship, and the unique appeal of Micro Matter.
Micro Matter serves as a reminder of the power of art to transport us, to offer a respite from the world, even if just for a moment. Through her work, Rosa de Jong invites us to explore these tiny worlds, to lose ourselves in their intricate details, and to find a moment of peace amidst the chaos of life.
