In Buddhist ideas, the universe has its own balance and tolerance. Following this thought, Ahead Concept Design reviews the scale and arranges the space by spreading the house out. With an open mind to see the floating breath of the environment, they remove the imagination of the doorways, making the spaces connect together. The wood material is the largest scope of the indoor space, making the expressions of the room plentiful. Especially when combined with distinct color palettes, vertical and horizontal lines, dark South American chicken-wing wood, Thai silk textures, and Teakwood floors lined with titanium crochets, a quiet and graceful attitude is portrayed.
The private residence spans 200 m2 and was completed in Taoyuan, Taiwan, between April 2014 and May 2015. The design team, led by Ahead Concept Design and including YU-CHENG LO and CHUN-SUNG YANG, faced the challenge of interpreting the owner's orderly yet distinctive personality. As a devoted Buddhist, the owner's generous, open-minded, and self-restrained nature is reflected in the design.
Buddhism believes that the universe is balanced and all-inclusive. Since the homeowner's philosophy aligns with this belief, Ahead Concept Design incorporated it into the design by removing all the doorways and combining all the spaces into one. This is particularly evident in connecting the eldest son's room with that of the mother, symbolizing the everlasting bond between parent and child.
The Taoyuan Chiang Home is an example of how expensive materials are superficial without proper design. By incorporating the sense of smell, interactions with light and temperature, and the feel of delicate textures, the design aims to make users feel comfortable and wealthy in their hearts and in their life. The concept of home is deeply believed to be both the origin and the endpoint of life's pursuit, and a comfortable space should evoke that constant feeling of waiting to go home.
This design was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2016 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. The award recognizes outstanding and creatively ingenious designs that authenticate experience and resourcefulness. Esteemed for incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology, the Taoyuan Chiang Home exhibits strong technical and creative skills and contributes to quality of life improvements, making the world a better place.
