Northbridge: A Whisky Bottle Inspired by Copenhagen

Scandinavian Minimalism Meets North-Copenhagen Roughness

Northbridge is a unique fusion of Scandinavian minimalism and the rough unpretentiousness of North-Copenhagen. It is designed to be a whisky for the people, offering higher quality than what you would put in your Irish coffee, while still maintaining an affordable price range.

The design of Northbridge draws inspiration from the vibrant city of Copenhagen. With visual references to Dronning Louises Bro, the bridge with the most bike traffic in the world, the bottle captures the essence of the city where citizens gather to enjoy the sun, drink take-away coffee or cold pilsners, and even dance in the snow on New Year's Eve.

The 500 ml glass bottle features a wooden cork and embossed and screen-printed product information. The layout of the graphics on the bottle plays with symmetry and asymmetry, enhancing readability on the translucent glass. The mix of screen print and embossing creates an interactive two-layer design.

Amanda-Li Kollberg, the designer of Northbridge, utilized hand sketching, Adobe Illustrator drawings, and 3D rendering and printing for prototyping. The project was developed over Skype between the client in Copenhagen, Denmark, and the designer in Berlin, Germany, during April and May 2015.

As a young designer, this packaging project was a significant creative step for Kollberg, who previously had a background in print design. Overcoming the challenges of working with glass and 3D-print prototyping, Kollberg successfully created a design that reflects the balance of Copenhagen's refined and unpretentious nature.

The Northbridge whisky bottle has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2016, which honors designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills and contribute to quality of life improvements.
