Ming Yu Tang & Tea House: A Zen-Inspired Design by Raynon Chiu

Unveiling the Uniqueness of Traditional Chinese Elements in Modern Design

Raynon Chiu, a renowned designer, has masterfully blended traditional Chinese elements with modern design in the creation of the Ming Yu Tang & Tea House. This piece, inspired by the simplicity and peace of Zen, is a testament to the depth and richness of Chinese culture.

The Ming Yu Tang & Tea House stands out due to its unique use of traditional Chinese elements. The designer has skillfully combined raw materials to create a space that deeply reflects Chinese culture. The tea house is not overly decorated, adhering to the Zen principle of simplicity and peace, thus creating a pure land for its visitors.

The realization of this design was achieved through the use of diverse materials such as silver tripod ash, Indian wood grain, Shanxi black, urban grey, wired glass, black titanium, and copper. These materials were used to create hollow, partitioned, and enclosed spaces, resulting in a design that measures 12000 mm x 27000 mm x 5900 mm.

The design process was not without its challenges. The most significant of these was the need to create a valuable design within a limited budget. However, Chiu overcame this by using simple but representative elements to build a typical Chinese living space. The tea house, located in the Nanshan district of Shenzhen, China, was completed within a timeframe from April to August 2014.

Chiu's design was not only aesthetically pleasing but also functional. The artistic ceiling was used to cover any uneven defects, and the space was filled with mahogany, blue and white porcelain, teapots, and wood crafts to create a typical Chinese living space. The chandeliers with modern Chinese decorative patterns interacted with warm spotlights, and small lights hidden in the closet illuminated the China.

The Ming Yu Tang & Tea House has been recognized for its exceptional design, winning the Golden A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
