The design of "Daylight, River and Wind" was inspired by the diverse generations living within its walls. Chen aimed to create a space that would not only serve as a home but also as a place that carries unknown stories and possibilities. The residence, with its circular and independent style, integrates naturally with the city's landscapes, offering a ubiquitous atmosphere of tranquility and harmony.
What sets this design apart is its unique use of materials and space. The interior is adorned with compound objects made of iron grilles, extending the black-and-white bricks and exposed concrete walls. This simple yet delicate contemporary quality contrasts with the warmth of wooden floors, furniture, and a modern sculpture, creating a warm and green space that invites people to linger.
Chen's innovative design approach also extends to the building's realization. The ground floor serves as a medium connecting the indoor and outdoor space, featuring a wide-open and majestic hallway and round square. This design choice strengthens the public relationship with the environment, allowing the architecture to match appropriately with the culture creative industry park across the street.
The residence spans 880 square meters and was completed in January 2016. Despite its contemporary design, it sits harmoniously with the greenery plants in its surroundings, further emphasizing Chen's commitment to creating a balance between man-made structures and nature.
One of the challenges Chen faced during the design process was ensuring that the residence could function as an interaction for all entities in the environment. The second to the fourth floor is designed mainly for the activities of the whole family, transforming the residence into a place for family members to showcase their collections of jewelry and interact with each other.
In conclusion, "Daylight, River and Wind" is a testament to Chien-I Chen's innovative design approach. It's not just a residence; it's a space that tells a story, a space that invites exploration and interaction, and a space that harmoniously blends with its surroundings. This design is a deserving winner of the prestigious Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, showcasing remarkable expertise and innovation in the field of architecture.
