Creating a unique blend of typography and illustration, Hidayat's design was inspired by her love for concept art and typography. The idea was simple yet innovative: 'what if EVERY page in a book could be a poster?’ This concept led to the creation of an experimental storybook where each page doubles as a poster.
"Posterrific Adventure of Anna Warrick" tells the story of Anna's adventure inside the World of Posters. The script and story on each page are integrated into illustrations that are actually poster worlds. As the story unfolds, Anna jumps from poster to poster, visiting the worlds of movies, travel, fashion, and others until she finds the one poster where she belongs.
The design of the book presented unique challenges. The integration of fonts into the drawing meant that last-minute revisions were not possible. Changing the script or correcting a grammatical error would require a complete layout change. Despite these challenges, Hidayat successfully created a book that challenges the reader to read the script within the illustration while enjoying the story.
The book, which is self-published and bilingual (English-Japanese), consists of 16 different posters. It was launched in Fall 2015 (Northern Hemisphere). The design process started in 2014 and was completed in July 2015 in Japan, with the book being printed in Bandung, Indonesia.
For her innovative design, Hidayat was awarded the Golden A' Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
In conclusion, "Posterrific Adventure of Anna Warrick" is a testament to Rianti Hidayat's innovative approach to design. By merging typography and illustration, she has created a unique reading experience that challenges and engages the reader in a new and exciting way.
