The inspiration behind SpaceTime Coordinates stems from the desire to help individuals relate to the solar system and find their place in the universe. The project presents the solar system on a human scale, using a birthdate, historical event, or individual achievement to create a unique and personalized poster. This approach transforms the abstract concept of the universe into a tangible and personal experience.
SpaceTime Coordinates stands out for its unique properties and realization technology. The design uses four dimensions (x, y, z, t) to represent a specific location in time and space. The orbital paths are illustrated in gradient lines, indicating the counterclockwise direction of all the planets. The sizes and distances between the planets are schematized to make all the orbits and objects visible at this scale. This meticulous design process, backed by NASA's JPL data, ensures accuracy and authenticity.
The posters are available in two sizes and three colors, printed on thick, museum-quality, acid-free matte paper. The design process involved overcoming the challenge of developing an Illustrator script that generates the planets' positions according to a given date, using NASA JPL data. This technical achievement further enhances the uniqueness of the design.
The project was launched via a Kickstarter campaign in August 2015, which raised 83,660 Euros from 1,514 backers. Production began in the USA in November 2015, and over 1,600 posters have been printed since. This successful crowdfunding campaign demonstrates the public's interest and appreciation for this innovative design concept.
The SpaceTime Coordinates project was awarded the Golden A' Limited Edition and Custom Design Award in 2016. This prestigious award is granted to extraordinary creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics. The award is a testament to govy's innovative approach and the project's unique contribution to design and technology.
