Locale: The Pub Cafe

A Casual and Youthful Space

Locale: The Pub Cafe has been designed to provide a casual and youthful space. The restaurant is designed to provide open unambiguous spaces which open up to the outdoors on the upper level. The upper level has been designed as an open-air balcony with a surrounding of natural plants to provide a homely feel to the space.

An "Open house" - these two words form the overall inspiration for the project. The entire space has been designed to provide open and clutter-free yet private spaces. A huge emphasis has been laid in terms of design to provide non-imposing, youthful, and colorful spaces. Locale is inspired by youth; it feels like a free-spirited place with a lot of funk elements. Being a corner building in a busy marketplace, it had to stand out as an inviting facade.

Locale: The Pub Cafe has been designed to provide a casual and youthful space. Designed to provide open unambiguous spaces which open up to the outdoors on the upper level. The space is divided into two floors, wherein the lower level has been designed as a semi-formal space with specific emphasis laid on the performance area for live bands. The central performance area is a double-height area visible from the upper level as well. The upper level has been designed as an open-air balcony with a surrounding of natural plants to provide a homely feel to the space.

The first thing to bring together a unified space between two levels was to declutter the central space completely and provide an unambiguous feel to the space. Breaking down all the external walls on the upper level and creating space for planters on the outside surface was yet another challenge here.

Locale has been built up using all locally available materials. The lower level is done in wooden flooring with leather sofas and chairs, while the upper level has been done with red brick floor and cane furniture. All wood paneling is done with raw cut wood without sanding. GI pipes have been used for the shelving fixture of the library.

The restaurant opens into the central double-height area, which is also the live performance area. The bar counter is provided at the diagonal end from the entrance. The lower level is divided into four specific spaces, namely the performance area in the center, which is a double-height space, the bar counter occupying the diagonally opposite the entrance, the gaming zone on the left side of the bar, and a cozy sitting area on the other side of the bar with a staircase leading to the upper level. The upper level is an open balcony with seating and is treated as such. Flanked with natural plants all around, the upper level has a library corner and a small serving bar.

The project was started in November 2015 and opened on 31 December 2015. It is located in Saket, PVR complex, New Delhi, India.

Locale: The Pub Cafe has been awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel, and Tourism Design category in 2016. This award is given to well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. It is respected for integrating industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.
