Hohobare Amahare: A Unique Restaurant and Champagne Bar Design

Bringing Together Sun, Moon, and Coral in a Sophisticated Space

The concept behind Hohobare Amahare is to provide customers with a space that evokes happiness and radiance during the day and a warm and inviting atmosphere at night. The designers wanted to express the energy of the sun and the moon through their design, and they achieved this by incorporating the spawning of coral as a central theme.

The design team created a stunning wall surface using plaster and coral glass chips to represent the waves of solar energy and the spawning of coral on a moonlit night. The lighting effects further enhance the difference between the daytime and nighttime experiences, creating a highly sensitive and value-added space that satisfies customers with discerning tastes.

One of the challenges faced by the designers was the limited space available for the project. However, they successfully managed to create a sense of luxury and a special Okinawan touch by incorporating traditional elements such as lacquer and gold leaf Japanese paper. These accents complement the prestigious and sophisticated cuisine offered at Hohobare Amahare.

The design also incorporates innovative technology to enhance the overall experience. The lighting switches are interlocked with each other, allowing for seamless transitions between the daytime and nighttime settings. Additionally, a finger advisory security system is in place for the bar, which operates as a members-only establishment at night.

The Hohobare Amahare design project began in March 2021 in Naha, Okinawa, and was completed and opened to the public in May 2021. Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing pandemic, the designers remained committed to creating a space that would bring joy and positivity to its visitors.

The exceptional design of Hohobare Amahare has been recognized with an Iron A' Design Award in the Hospitality, Recreation, Travel, and Tourism category. This award acknowledges the design's practicality, innovation, and ability to meet professional and industrial requirements.
