Vapour Bangalore: A Unique Dining Experience

Devesh Pratyay's Award-Winning Design Transforms Dining into a Visual Adventure

Imagine dining on a terrace with open views of the city, in a space that constantly subdivides itself, creating a unique dining experience. This is the reality at Vapour Bangalore, a restaurant designed by Devesh Pratyay. This article explores the design inspiration, unique properties, and realization technology behind this award-winning project.

Devesh Pratyay drew inspiration from terrace spaces with open views on all sides. The layout of Vapour Bangalore is designed to maximize these views, with each table offering a glimpse of the city. The main hall was constructed with a large height to provide a sense of a larger space, and the upper deck is further elevated to enhance the views.

What sets Vapour Bangalore apart is its unique location on the 15th floor. This provides not only great views of the city but also a unique dining experience. The restaurant is designed to enter a huge space that keeps subdividing itself into smaller spaces, providing a unique feature to this place. The main entry features sculptures of workmen on a beam eating and drinking in their lunch time, setting up a mood of casual and informal dining.

The restaurant was realized using vitrified tiles for the flooring, while the walls are cladded with fly ash bricks and left as it is with its texture. The fly ash bricks are finished with a coat of lacquer to maintain hygiene. The ceiling has been done in graphic boards hung from the true slab that is left exposed with all services in its natural concrete finish.

The project has a total area of 1250 Sqmt. spread on to two levels with a terrace seating 300 covers. The restaurant was started in July 2017 and completed in Dec 2018, located in Sarjapur road, in Bangalore, India. The design team included Devesh Bhatia and Pratyay Chakrabarti.

Devesh Pratyay's design faced the creative challenge of keeping the large volume present by a high ceiling of the interior space intact and using the same to provide a non-imposing and airy feel to the entire space. The result is a minimalist design that provides great views from its terraces by surrounding its guests with natural plants and shaded avenues all around.

This innovative design has not gone unnoticed. Vapour Bangalore was awarded the Golden A' Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design Award in 2018. This award is granted to marvelous, outstanding, and trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom. They are venerated products and bright ideas that advance art, science, design, and technology, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
