The Rockwell Group, renowned for their Tony Award-winning designs, drew inspiration from the desire to provide travelers with the amenities they need, when they need them. The result is a spatial solution that caters to both breakfast and lunch crowds. The physical structure of the Global Bazaar transitions along with its offerings, creating a seamless shift from morning to afternoon.
What sets this design apart is its ability to maintain distinct branding and aesthetics while undergoing a transformation from breakfast to lunch and dinner. The exterior store signs transition by rolling in, similar to a garage door mechanism. There's also a complete changeover of the menu, all happening within a matter of minutes. This swift transition provides passengers with the food options they want, exactly when they need them.
The design realization of Global Bazaar involves 20 unique signage transformation designs and 40 unique transforming signs. The mechanisms used for these transformations include rotation, folding, flipping, sliding, pivoting, and coiling. This innovative approach to signage transformation is a testament to the Rockwell Group's commitment to pushing the boundaries of design.
Another innovative feature of the Global Bazaar is its technology. The concepts run on OTG’s proprietary tablet-based flo technology, which offers language support in 20 languages and a visual menu for easy food ordering. The checkout process is self-serve, allowing for quick and easy service – a necessity in an airport environment. In a partnership with United Airlines, passengers can even pay for their purchases with United Mileage Plus points.
The design of the Global Bazaar was influenced by several factors, including the overall layout of the terminal, traffic flow, local food influences, space dimensions, and materials and labor. Despite the challenges, the dynamic concepts have been successful from a visual, media, and sales revenue perspective. The Global Bazaar was awarded Silver in A' Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design Award in 2018, a testament to its innovative design and functionality.
In conclusion, the Global Bazaar is a testament to the Rockwell Group's innovative approach to design. By seamlessly transitioning from breakfast to lunch and dinner, the design provides passengers with the food options they need, when they need them. The use of technology and unique signage transformations further enhances the user experience, making the Global Bazaar a true game-changer in the world of fast casual dining.
