The main concept behind the design was to create a sense of action and movement through the arrangement of the logo. By using blurred forms and textures, Carter was able to evoke a feeling of motion that draws the eye across the cover. The use of the chronophotography technique, popularized in the Victorian era and later by Eadweard Muybridge, adds a contrast to the overall austerity of the design.

Throughout the design process, Carter experimented with different materials, software, and mediums to achieve the desired motion effect. By playing with the aperture and shutter speed settings, he was able to capture the right amount of exposure, resulting in visually appealing and original covers. The covers measure 210mm in width and 297mm in height, providing ample space for the dynamic design.

One of the strengths of Carter's design is its ability to communicate with the audience, even those who may not be familiar with the 40 creative individuals featured in the magazine. The motion within the logo brings the static covers to life, creating a sense of energy and excitement. The design project took place in Malta from March to May 2014.

The research behind the design focused on studying type in relation to motion. Carter conducted various experiments and studies, particularly in the area of chronophotography, to explore the possibilities of typography legibility, application, and motion. The challenge was to create a concept that stood out from other editorial covers and reflected the evolving nature of typography.

Andrew Carter's design for the 40 Kreattiv Magazine covers has received recognition for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Silver A' Design Award in 2016 in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category. This award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, technical characteristics, and artistic skill, while also evoking positive emotions and wonder.
