A Nordic-Inspired Dining Experience in Istanbul

The concept of Ops Passage restaurant revolves around a fusion of Scandinavian aesthetics and Turkish charm. The use of soft grey tones on the walls, floor, and pub desk creates a calming ambiance, while warm oak furniture and ceiling wooden panels with brass accessories add a touch of elegance. The marble pub desk follows the form of the ceiling plan, creating a harmonious visual flow throughout the space.

One of the challenges faced during the design process was the historical preservation regulations in the area. As a result, it was not allowed to build a chimney for the restaurant. However, the innovative design team at Arketipo Design came up with a solution by implementing a charcoal filter system, ensuring proper ventilation without compromising the historical integrity of the building.

Another obstacle that needed to be overcome was the acoustic issues within the space. To address this, the design team strategically incorporated wooden panels into the ceiling plan. These panels not only enhanced the aesthetic appeal but also helped to improve the acoustics of the restaurant. The installation of the panels was done using epoxy cushion and metal lifting beams, ensuring a secure and functional solution.

Ops Passage restaurant spans a total area of 120 sqm, including an 80 sqm dining area that can accommodate up to 100 customers, including the terrace. The design team took into consideration the historical significance of the location and the needs of the modern-day clientele, creating a space that seamlessly blends the past and the present.

Recognized for its exceptional design, Ops Passage restaurant was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2016. This prestigious accolade is bestowed upon designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving the quality of life through art, science, design, and technology.
