Slade Summer Foundation Exhibition Identity

Unleashing the Essence of Art: Point, Line, and Plane

Inspired by Wassily Kandinsky's "Point and Line to Plane" (1926), Daeki Shim and Hyojun Shim have created a captivating exhibition identity that encapsulates the fundamental concepts of art and design. Through their innovative approach, they have transformed the artworks displayed at the Slade Summer School 2010 Foundation Show into a simple yet powerful point and line format.

This exhibition identity, consisting of a poster, invitation card, and online promotion image, serves as a visual representation of the diverse range of artworks showcased at the exhibition. By reducing each piece to its most basic elements, Daeki Shim and Hyojun Shim have successfully captured the essence of the artists' creations.

The realization of this design was made possible through the use of Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Effect. The designers meticulously observed the development process of numerous artists, studying their thumbnail sketches and gaining insights into their creative journeys. With their technical expertise and artistic vision, Daeki Shim and Hyojun Shim brought the exhibition identity to life.

The exhibition identity specifications include a poster measuring W 594 x H 841 mm and an invitation card measuring W 145 x H 100 mm. These dimensions were carefully chosen to ensure the effective communication of the exhibition information to viewers.

Viewers engaging with the exhibition identity are provided with a glimpse into the exhibition's content and a sense of the artists' inclinations. This design serves as a gateway to the world of art, inviting individuals to explore and appreciate the diverse range of artworks on display.

The Slade Summer Foundation Exhibition Identity was launched in August 2010, serving as a promotional tool for the exhibition. It was created by Daeki Shim and Hyojun Shim, who acted as the creative director and designer for the project. The design team's meticulous research into the participating artists' works and influences formed the foundation of this project.

One of the main challenges faced during the creation of this exhibition identity was symbolizing the individual artworks. As the artists' works were constantly evolving and changing until the final exhibition, capturing their essence in a simple point and line format proved to be both amusing and difficult.

This exhibition identity, designed by Daeki Shim and Hyojun Shim, has garnered recognition and acclaim in the design community. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2016. This prestigious accolade is a testament to the designers' exceptional creativity and resourcefulness in incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology.
