Eternal Union: A Unique Blend of Classic and Contemporary Jewelry Design

Olga Yatskaer's Award-Winning Pendant Design Embodies Endless Love and Unity

The Eternal Union pendant stands out for its unique shape, which appears to be two interconnected shapes but is in fact one. This illusion is created by fine engraving, giving the pendant a depth of meaning that belies its simple design. Some may see echoes of ancient Celtic jewelry or the Herakles knot, while others may perceive an eternity symbol or the number eight. Regardless of interpretation, the design is undeniably unique, having been conceived by Yatskaer in February 2016.

The pendant is made from 18K yellow gold and was created using a mix of traditional and high-tech jewelry making techniques. The design process began with a sketch on paper, which was then transformed into a detailed design. Various European and American tools and machinery were used to produce the final piece. The pendant measures 19mm x 31mm, with a thickness varying between 4 and 7mm, and an opening for the chain of approximately 2.2mm in diameter.

The Eternal Union pendant was first exhibited in May 2016 at the Chateau de l'Ermitage in Wavre, Belgium, an event that received Belgian press coverage. The design was awarded Silver in the A' Jewelry, Eyewear and Watch Design Award in 2017, a prestigious accolade given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation.

Creating a simple yet new jewelry design in today's world, where millions of designs from the past 7000 years are just a few mouse clicks away, was a significant challenge for Yatskaer. Another technical challenge was the placement of a very thin engraving on the miniature piece. However, Yatskaer's dedication to her craft and her commitment to creating a piece that was both appealing and wearable led to the successful realization of the Eternal Union design.
