The logo design of PDcoffee is a standout feature, highlighting the interplay between lowercase letters "p" and "d". The magenta "p" symbolizes PDcoffee owners passionately holding up the coffee for their customers. Rotating the letter "p" counterclockwise by 180 degrees reveals the yellow-orange "d", which represents the customers carrying PDcoffee’s products in their hands with expectation. Together, the integrated letters indicate the interaction between PDcoffee and its customers, forming a vivid and dynamic brand character.
Developed from the brand logo, the series of visual designs centers on vitality and activeness, attempting to deliver a sense of freshness and pleasure to the customers. The consistency of the designs deeply delineates the image of the brand, creating a cohesive and memorable visual identity.
The realization of the PDcoffee design involved various techniques and materials. Business cards were printed with Pantone color and spot varnish, while the banner was made with canvas. The mobile diner body was crafted using computer shears to cut the character and playbill output.
With regards to specifications, the mobile diner body measures 200 cm in width and 117 cm in height. The canvas banner has dimensions of 60 cm in width and 180 cm in height. The poster measures 100 cm in width and 150 cm in height.
PDcoffee is not just about the design; it is also about the interaction and experience it offers. The brand is born out of a love for coffee and the passion the vendors have to share the beauty of coffee with the public. By powering people up with a cup of coffee, PDcoffee hopes to build a deeper connection between coffee and people.
The PDcoffee design project began in March 2016 and was completed in June 2015 in Taichung City, Taiwan (R.O.C.). The design team conducted extensive research to understand the Taiwanese coffee market and the concept behind PDcoffee. One of the challenges they faced was creating an identity that matched the surroundings of the mobile coffee truck while still being noticeable to consumers.
PDcoffee aims to transform the current state of the coffee market in Taiwan. While coffee has become popular, it has also become routine and habitual, losing its deeper meaning. PDcoffee seeks to return to the essence of coffee by offering a unique pour-over brewing method and providing complete services in convenient locations with their mobile shops. Through their design and approach, PDcoffee hopes to rekindle the emotional bond between people and coffee.
The PDcoffee design was awarded an Iron A' Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. PDcoffee's design stands out for its integration of industry best practices and competent technical characteristics, providing fulfillment and positive feelings, contributing to a better world.
