Yacob Sughair's Award-Winning Contemporary Table Design

Exploring the Fusion of Engineering, Mathematics, and Creativity in Furniture Design

Yacob Sughair, a renowned designer, has once again demonstrated his unique approach to design with his latest project, a contemporary table. This piece, which has won the prestigious Silver A' Furniture Design Award in 2017, showcases Sughair's belief in the multifaceted nature of objects and his ability to balance weight and form in an innovative way.

The inspiration for this design came from Sughair's belief that everything in nature has multiple faces. This concept is reflected in the table's design, which is positioned on the heads of four metal triangles. Each pair of triangles is nested and set against the other pair, creating a different view from each side. This unique arrangement allows for a balance that defies traditional design norms, demonstrating that balance does not always require large and extensive solutions.

The table's surface is made of specially treated black marble, giving it a snaky and smooth appearance. This treatment enhances the table's visual appeal, adding to its uniqueness. The table measures 140cmx70cmx43.4cm, a size that makes it versatile enough for various spaces.

The project began in early 2016 in Amman and was completed in August of the same year. Throughout the design process, Sughair focused on creating a piece that would offer a unique visual experience. He wanted the table to encourage sensory exploration, inviting viewers to enjoy the crossing legs and special surface treatments.

Sughair's design philosophy is evident in his notes on the project. He describes the table as a "journey" that encourages the senses, sight, and touch to enjoy the design's elements. He also refers to it as a "story to live with daily," highlighting the practical and emotional aspects of the design.

The Silver A' Design Award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. Sughair's table, with its unique properties and creative vision, certainly fits this description. The award is a testament to Sughair's skill and his ability to push the boundaries of traditional furniture design.
