The name Irekua Anatani, derived from the native Purepecha language, translates to 'Family house under the trees.' This reflects the design's core inspiration - the land itself, blanketed by striking trees. From the initial site visit, the design team envisioned a house that would fully embrace the splendor of living under a canopy of trees.
The design of Irekua Anatani is a response to its orientation. The southeast facade is linear and features a wood curtain that filters the morning sun rays, warming the hallway. In contrast, the southwest facade opens towards Valle de Bravo's lake. This open covered arrangement reinforces the intention of living in harmony with the environment and its users.
The house was designed for two families sharing common areas, necessitating a balance between privacy and accessibility. The private areas are secluded, while the common areas are easily accessible to both families, creating a harmonious living environment.
The materials used in the construction of the house were concrete, wood, and steel, chosen for their durability and aesthetic appeal. The house spans 700 square meters, providing ample space for both families. The design project was completed in 2015, with the construction process spanning 2015-2016.
The design team was led by Gerardo Broissin and included Adrian Tellez, Mauricio Cristobal, Alejandro Rocha, Thelma Blake, Monserrat Jimenez, Oscar Aguilar, Damariz Gonzalez, Alejandra Carranza, Alejandro Dávalos, and Pablo Morales. The visual content for the design was credited to Alexandre D' La Roche.
The Irekua Anatani is a testament to the power of design in enhancing lifestyle and connecting with nature. Its unique properties and innovative design approach have earned it recognition and accolades, including the Golden A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award. This award is given to trendsetting creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom, embodying extraordinary excellence and significantly impacting the world with their desirable characteristics.
