The Lofoten Islands, located north of the Arctic Circle, are renowned for their natural beauty, fresh air, pure water, and breathtaking landscapes. The LOFOTEN WATER project draws its inspiration from these majestic islands, aiming to encapsulate their purity and beauty in a bottle of water. The islands' rugged mountain peaks, deep fjords, and sheltered inlets are reflected in the design of the bottle and its cap, creating a product that is as visually stunning as it is refreshing.
LOFOTEN WATER stands out from other Super Premium Bottled Waters as it is the only water in the world that collects its water in the mountains on the ground, demonstrating the existence of places on earth with such pure water. The water is unprocessed and natural, making it one of the purest waters in the world. The bottle's design, moving from a slender body of horizontal lines to delicate shoulders, alongside the contrasting angles of a cap inspired by the mountain peaks of Lofoten, articulates the purity and premium character of LOFOTEN WATER.
The realization of this design is a blend of materiality and visual identity. The clear super flint glass bottle speaks of an untainted arctic environment, enhanced by the absence of graphic flourishes, yet emphasized by the engraved lettering at its base. The dark blue cap captures the deep blue of Arctic skies, while the brand identity, in color, form, type, and typesetting, expresses a northerly provenance, an icy cool climate, and high quality.
The LOFOTEN WATER bottle is 75mm in diameter, 32cm high, and 1.6kg in weight, produced in Extra Flint high-quality glass with LOFOTEN WATER embossed into the bottle. The eco-friendly gift box is 33cm high and 85mm in diameter. The simple but elegant design with the horizontal lines of the bottle creates a solid grip on the bottle when pouring from the wide opening.
The project, which started in 2006, was completed in late 2016. The main challenge was to design a product that captured and reflected Lofoten and the majestic landscape and pure environment. The second challenge was to design and capture the rugged mountains and make a cap that reflected it. This was a time-demanding process with many obstacles on the way to the final result.
In conclusion, the LOFOTEN WATER project is a testament to the beauty and purity of the Lofoten Islands. It reflects the unspoilt landscape of rugged mountain peaks, deep fjords, and sheltered inlets. The design, which won the "Best Tasting Water 2016 Award" by Zenith International, is a perfect blend of functionality and aesthetics, offering a taste of the Arctic in a bottle.
