The inspiration for this design stemmed from the client's desire for a comfortable and spacious living area. Weng's approach was to create a series of stereoscopic spaces, resulting in an environment that is both expansive and intimate. The design's unique properties lie in its symmetrical relationship, which balances visual weight and infuses the space with a lively dynamic. The use of rectangular shapes in varying dimensions further enhances this effect, creating a visual concentration that is both intriguing and aesthetically pleasing.
Weng's design is not only visually striking but also technologically innovative. The residence features large windows that flood the interior with natural light, creating a bright and comfortable atmosphere. Despite their size, these windows do not compromise the client's privacy, demonstrating a thoughtful balance between openness and seclusion. The interior design elements, including log furniture, abstract wall art, and a golden bedside lamp, soften the space's rigid lines and add a touch of warmth and elegance.
The residence, spanning 660 square meters, is located in Hsinchu County, Taiwan, and was completed in November 2016. The design process involved a careful consideration of the building's interaction with its surroundings. For the nature-loving client, the ability to enjoy the outdoors, whether under the blue sky or moonlight, was a key factor in the design. Weng's design successfully integrates indoor and outdoor spaces, offering the client a seamless connection with nature.
Despite the design's apparent simplicity, it presented several challenges. The front facade, adorned with translucent glass and thin iron works, required a delicate balance to avoid a sense of heaviness. The result is a facade that reflects the blue sky, creating a stunning visual contrast. This design feature, along with others, demonstrates Weng's ability to overcome design challenges and create a residence that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
Chia-Hung Weng's design for The Residence with Natural Environment has been recognized for its excellence and innovation. It was awarded the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017, a prestigious accolade that celebrates top-notch, creative, and professionally remarkable designs. This award is a testament to Weng's exceptional skill and the design's unique contribution to the field of interior design.
