Rapture the Home Garden: A Romantic Oasis in the City

Creating an Ecological Haven for Relaxation and Gardening

Inspired by the shape of the building and the love for proportion and harmony, designer Agnieszka Hubeny-Zukowska has transformed a medium-sized property into a stunning home garden. With a focus on privacy and ecological sustainability, this garden offers a serene retreat from the bustling city life.

The main challenge of this project was to isolate the interior of the house and garden from the uninteresting neighborhood. The presence of neighboring windows on the first floor required a creative solution to create a romantic oasis, shielded from prying eyes. The result is a garden that allows the owners to forget about their responsibilities and indulge in their passion for gardening.

The garden features a combination of traditional and modern elements. The paths are made of white concrete slabs that resemble sandstone, adding a touch of elegance to the space. Metalwork is used for the gazebo, benches, and arches at the entrance to the vegetable garden, providing a contemporary twist. Clay pots, stone ornaments, and metal accents add visual interest and texture.

Preserving the existing old fruit trees was a priority for the designer. These trees were integrated into the design, providing shade and a sense of history to the garden. Large trees were planted alongside high cut hedges to create a natural barrier and enhance privacy.

One of the key features of this garden is its ecological focus. The garden is designed to attract insects, including bees and butterflies, by incorporating plants that provide food and shelter for these beneficial creatures. Organic methods are used for growing herbs, vegetables, and shrubs, ensuring a healthy and sustainable environment. The use of lawns is minimized to reduce water consumption and the need for fertilizers.

The project, which started in April 2008 and was completed in April 2011, continues to evolve as the garden matures and requires ongoing maintenance. The design took into account local climate conditions, such as wind strength, rainfall, and temperature variations, to ensure the longevity and resilience of the garden.

The Rapture Home Garden by Agnieszka Hubeny-Zukowska has received recognition for its outstanding design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in Landscape Planning and Garden Design in 2017. This prestigious accolade celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and a commitment to improving quality of life.

With its blend of elegance, privacy, and ecological consciousness, the Rapture Home Garden is a testament to the power of design in creating a harmonious and rejuvenating outdoor space.
