The inspiration for Two Rooms comes from the designers' desire to continuously break through their own thinking and creativity. The project presents two different scenes: one representing the struggle to break shackles, and another symbolizing a state of freedom and infinite space. The use of music with a strong beat throughout the film highlights the contrasting characteristics of these two scenes.
Two Rooms is unique in its representation of contradiction and indivisibility. The designers were inspired by the words of Czech writer Hrabal: “I am actually an optimistic pessimist and a pessimistic optimist. I am an amphibian, two rooms sharing one wall.” The project explores the concept of being in two states at once, struggling yet free, confined yet limitless.
The project was realized using 3D MAX & AFTER EFFECT technology for film post-production, resulting in a wealth of visual effects that enhance the visual expression of the entire work. The work, which is 2 minutes long and has a pixel dimension of 1920px * 1080px, is available for viewing on the Vimeo website.
The design team, consisting of Lu Zhao, Sen Guo, and Weichao Zhang, faced challenges in the selection and shaping of elements, the representation of an abstract world, and the depiction of despair and panic. The real and virtual world winding and struggling was a significant challenge in the production of the work.
The Two Rooms project started in August 2016 in Dalian and was completed in December 2016. It represents a significant achievement in design, having been awarded Silver in A' Computer Graphics, 3D Modeling, Texturing, and Rendering Design Award in 2017. This award is given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that illustrate outstanding expertise and innovation.
