Exploring the Intersection of Design, Space, and Functionality

The design of Extension is inspired by the precision and regularity of a chef's knife cuts. TSENG CHUAN CHIEH has consistently arranged regular lines across the three floors of the banquet hall, creating a sense of continuity and cohesion. The vertical lines are orderly distributed, weaving personality and layers into the commercial space. The result is a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

What sets Extension apart is its innovative use of lines and space. The vertical and horizontal lines in the space reflect a mixture of Ying and Yang through a round opening of a screen. This design feature creates an atmosphere that is both dynamic and harmonious. The lines also serve a practical purpose, helping to manage the echoes and sound waves in the field.

The realization of this design was a technical feat. A 3-D frame constructed with regular lines was hung precisely on the ceiling using a specially-designed suspension component. This required careful planning and execution, as well as the development of new technologies related to suspension and connections.

The design of Extension was a challenging project. One of the major hurdles was convincing the owner to accept the plan to connect the entire space from the first to the fifth floor based on the concept of Extension Lines. However, through careful planning and technical innovation, TSENG CHUAN CHIEH was able to overcome these challenges and create a design that is both visually stunning and functional.

Extension has been recognized for its design excellence, winning the Silver A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2017. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation, and Extension certainly fits the bill. With its unique use of lines and space, Extension is a testament to the power of design to transform a space and create a unique, immersive experience.
